Welcome to ARCS

What is ARCS?

ARCS is the Adastral Recreational Cricket Society.

Where is it?

ARCS is centred on Adastral Park, just outside Ipswich, and aims to provide cricket, primarily of a fun kind, for those based at the Park (and also various BT sites in the area) who do not play regularly.

Who can play?

For guidance on who can play please see the eligibility rule.

Belated congratulations to Bouncers & Googlies for their terrific win over Runouts Unlimited in the Plate Final. A closely fought match saw Runouts seemingly coasting to victory until the B&G bowlers pegged them back. Several fine performances were topped by Bouncers & Googlies' Man of the Match Akshay John.

Congratulations to Empty Raincoats who won the 2008 Cup Final (again!) and commiserations to Fraud Squad on an evening when the rain held off long enough for ER to post a very competitve 173 and then restrict Fraud Squad to an oh-so-nearly-there 157, despite a Man-of-the-match winning blistering 20 from Fraud Squad Skipper Dave Allen. Another game played in typical ARCS spirit, but with a very competitive edge - have we ever had so much heckling of a bowler?! And then - for a change - it was beer and chili or veggie curry at the Greyhound. Who could ask for a better evening?

2008 Season Approaches

Preparations are underway for the 2008 season, which will be "kicking off" in early May. We're hoping that the 7 teams from last season will all be competing again this year, and we will always welcome new players or new teams. If you would like to join an existing team - or even form a new team with friends or colleagues - then contact one of the committee (see "Guide" section) for details.

Cup Final Rescheduled & Officials Still Needed:

Due to the Cup Semi between Caught Jesters & Runouts being rained off 3 times (so far), we've had to reschedule the Cup Final from Tues 10th to Thurs 12th July - let's hope it's 4th time lucky for the Cup Semi on 10th !!!

And we are still looking for officials for the Cup & Plate finals on 11th & 12th July - if you are available, please let Chris Roberts know (as usual, all officials will get a free meal & pint at the Greyhound afterwards).

21st June 2007

2007 Semi Finals now confirmed:

25th Jun Fraud Squad vs. Empty Raincoats - Cup Semi

26th Jun Reapers vs. Research (R17) - Plate Semi

Message to Captains from Jim on Rescheduling Rained off matches:

In typical ARCS fashion, as soon as the season starts it seems that we get inclement weather! So perhaps an opportune time to talk about the procedures for fixture rearrangement should we be unlucky enough to have matches rained off.

With the limited number of teams and the competition structure we have in place (the same as last year incidentally), all teams will have one game per week for 6 out of 7 weeks. These game are scheduled Mon-Wed most weeks and therefore most Thursdays are theoretically available for fixture rearrangements. However, your Committee appreciate that arranging teams for more than one game per week is not easy and therefore a dictatorial style of fixture rearrangement from yours truly would go down like the proverbial lead balloon.

Therefore, the Committee have decided that the most pragmatic approach to this is for the Captains of the teams whose game has been rained off should select and agree one of the available 'spare fixtures', and then inform the fixtures secretary (Jim Pettifor) of their selection. Jim will check with Ipswich School, update the fixtures on the website and confirm the change to the Captains concerned. If it proves impossible to agree on a mutually acceptable rearrangement date, the fixture will be cancelled and the game will NOT count towards the averages of teams concerned.

Please also note that games played up until 20th June will be both preliminary games which will decide places in Semi-finals and Finals, and also contribute to final league positions. Therefore any game scheduled up to this date need to be re-played prior to the semi-finals (scheduled for the week beginning 25th June) if that result is to influence the semi-finals pairings.

6th May 2007

To avoid clashes with matches at Ipswich School we have changed the venues of some matches. Could captains please check the revised fixture spreadsheet which will be sent out shortly. Some matches will now be on a different pitch at Henley Road, Finals will only be on the Ivry Street pitch where marked.
